In 1973, his parents Einar and Reidun started a school for blind students in the mountain village of Khaling in Bhutan. They came back to Norway in 1981. They created the Norway-Bhutan Association, and continued to be engaged in the country for 25 years.
Harald was born and raised during his youth between Bhutan and Norway.
