Jean-Luc Sanchez has done multiple expeditions to explore South America with the main focus on Guyana and the Amazon but also the Andes around the Bolivian Altiplano. He resides in La Paz, Bolivia.

In 1981 he went for the first time to the Amazon to search for an isolated tribe. He admired the work of famous naturalists like Von Humbold and Théodore Monod. His approach as a self-taught scientific explorer is humanist.
In 2003, driven by his aspirations, he obtained the position of Chief of Service at Border Police of Saint-Laurent-du-Maroni in French Guiana. Later he got a diplomatic position attached to Homeland Security in the French Embassy in Bolivia and he retired in 2009.
