Biography

Information from the film:

She was born in the house of her grand father Sir Isaac Bell, magnate of the forges and owner of coal mines. Her mother died when she was 3. The connection with her father was very profound. She was 8 when step mother Lady Florence Bell married her father.

She played piano from a young age.

At the university of Oxford in 1886, she was first of her class in subject of History. She was very independent and could face her own professors. To lose her "Oxford ways" she was sent by her aunt via her mother to her uncle, diplomat and ambassador of the UK in Tehran, Perse. She arrived in the city on 9th May 1892.

In 1915 Gertrude and T.E. Lawrence are recruited by General Sir Gilbert Clayton as officers for the secret services.

Honors

The main hall of the National Museum of Irak is dedicated to her by the King Fayçal and the government of Irak in 1927. The museum was was founded by her.
